Understanding Genocide through Digital Storytelling

Using Ed.VoiceThread.com each group will be asked to create a digital story of a minimum of ten slides which includes pictures, a short video clip, and student narration. Each student must participate fully, which means that each student is responsible for creating the powerpoint, writing the script, and performing in the recording of the story.

The two examples listed below are very different in style. One takes the form of political cartoons which are narrated and explained by the other. The other takes the form of news broadcasts. While both are educational acceptable, and your digital story can include such media as music, political cartoons, etc your style should more closely resemble that of the current news on Darfur, in that you are discussing the eight stages of genocide and then comparing the similarities and differences between what happened in your particular case and what happened in the Holocaust of World War II.

We will be doing this assignment together in class at the end of the unit. I will have a step by step process to create this digital story which I will explain prior to entering the computer lab. I will also have a rubric for you which we will describe the week before. In the meantime, while exploring your topic in your webquest write down the web addresses of important media you wish to include, or save them to your file on the school's drive.
